Games are three 12 minute “stop time”
periods.
However, it is at the discretion of the game officials (refs
and or time keeper) to switch to running
time in the third period when the game time can not be finished within the
allotted ice time session.
Example: There are 5 minutes left on the time clock in the third period and there is only 7 minutes left for the
scheduled ice session. Time keeper will
switch to running time in order to finish the game within the allotted time
slot.
